What is Green Bean Coffee?
It is the raw or unroasted coffee bean. Standard coffee beans are the ones which have been roasted at 475 degrees Fahrenheit and this results in the dark color of coffee.
Coffee is well known for its source of caffeine. However, the other components of coffee such as chlorogenic acid, quinides, lignans and trigonelline have also shown to have effects on glycemic control and weight loss. Green bean coffee is found to have all these beneficial components, especially chlorogenic acid.
Chlorogenic acid in particular, has proven to inhibit an enzyme that promotes the formation of glucose in the liver. In fact, chlorogenic acid in coffee may be responsible, at least in part, for the reduced risk of glycemic disorders like diabetes, in the wake of long-term coffee consumption.
It may also attribute to anti-obesity effects. Various studies have suggested that chlorogenic acid not only inhibits the absorption of fat but also stimulates the metabolism of excess fat. Unfortunately, normally brewed coffee is not as good a source of chlorogenic acid. Although the naturally bitter taste of coffee beans is removed by roasting them, this very action also removes a significant portion of chlorogenic acid. Therefore, green coffee beans are still one of the best natural sources for chlorogenic acid.
Recent study on green coffee beans weight loss benefits
In a recent study by the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society, a group of overweight or obese people(with a BMI of more than 25) who consumed a fraction of an ounce of ground green coffee beans each day lost about 10 percent of their body weight. This study involved 16 overweight or obese people aged 22-26 years who took capsules of the extract(either 700 or 1050 milligrams per day) or capsules containing a placebo, an inactive powder, for a total of 22 weeks.
Guess what? The participants lost an average of 17 pounds each during the 22 weeks of the study – this was an average of a 10.5% decrease in overall body weight and a 16% decrease in overall body fat.
With such promising results, many companies and websites have jumped on the wagon for a slice of the market. You, too, would be tempted to try out Green Bean Coffee for its tested results. However, the consumer should always understand that even if such a pill is available, you will still need to maintain a regular exercise regimen as well as a healthy diet.
